Celebrity Infertility

I have a confession. I am a self-professed and self-diagnosed consumer of celebrity trash. Ask me who just broke up with who, or who just got a DUI, and I can tell you the latest news almost down to the hour. I know. It's not the most upstanding way to spend my time, especially considering the transgressions the paparazzi have been exacting on people lately, but I've grown comfortable in my shamelessness over the years.

Anyhow, maybe it's just me and my addiction to celebrities, but I found this read really interesting. And somehow, it made me feel a little less lonely.

Even if those all aren't true, there enough to know we are not alone. Although, I do happen to believe a lot of them are!!

And you are not alone at all.

I have weaned myself off celebrity baby news, with the one exception of celebrity IF news and rumors. I just can't get enough! I always like celebs so much more when I find out they're one of us.

Actually, it is completely fascinating. I knew a woman who once talked about her IVIG by saying "It's like what Courtney Cox had to do." - somehow that was all the explanation people needed.

Familiarity breeds acceptance. If some of my family were more aware of the ins and outs of infertility, they might not be so judgmental about IVF. For people who have been educated about AIDS and race and even divorce from Days of Our Lives, something like celebrity stories really can make a difference.

Celebrity culture is no doubt bizarre, but without it we wouldn't have GFY...

LOL at your addiction. I am so clueless when it comes to celebrity names let alone what they are doing. Now I know who to go to with answers to my celebrity questions. (;

Thanks for sharing the link. I have enough trouble thinking about coming out to my family and friends and give huge kudos to those who are willing to do it in the public eye. While I know they can help to make the stigma less, I completely understand their need for some privacy with this stuff.

interesting. yet while it's terrible the losses we have all suffered, somehow this doesn't make me feel any better. for the rich and famous or powerful have such great resources at their discretion and the freedom to get the best care for and take off work for months and try until they succeed. most of us don't have that luxury. we couldn't afford multiple attempts or a surrogate. maybe I'm just bitter that money has anything to do with it, but it does.

I am right there with ya! I LOVE the celebrity IF stories. I felt physically mad at J-Lo when she would not 'fess up to at least visiting an IF center as the photogs snapped pics of her coming out of one. And I bawled when I read Angelina say her twins were not conceived via IVF because I had so bought into the gossip rags claiming it. She is so outspoken about her life, I completely believe her.

I would not wish IF on my worst enemy. But for those celebs who have "happy endings" after undergoing fertility treatment, I hope they will stand up and make their voices loud.

This post was totally helpful to me! As a sociologist I find it important to be up-to-date with American pop culture, hence my still somewhat closeted, nevertheless, trash-addiction.
Sarang, I also still hold a grudge against J-Lo. I can't get over it.

I love it when celebrities come out and accept their IF. At the same time, it is so very disturbing when they claim insane things like "swimming in fertility waters" to be their reality.

I agree with Nikki! I remember that news with Nicole Kidman and then People magazine citing a RE to semi-confirm the healing properties of a particular spa. It drove me nuts. Such BS. Plus the repeated ignorance of class inequality. Many (most) of us can't just hope on a plane to give this spa a try, just to see.
